The author of over 100 papers on higher education issues, took part in World Bank projects designed to improve educational standards in many regions of the world, served as the Vice President of Peking University at the time of Projects 985 and 211 (Chinese academic excellence initiatives similar to Russia’s Project 5-100).

Interests: 

State policies and regulation, economics and management of higher education.

B.A., Beijing Normal University (1982), M.A.s (1984, 1985) and Ph.D. (1987), Stanford (USA) in Educational Administration and Organizational Sociology.

2011-present – Director and Professor of the Institute of Economics of Education and Institute of Higher Education (Peking University).

2011-present – Executive President of the Chinese Society for Education Development Strategies.

2002-2011 – Chairman of the Peking University Council.

1996-2002 – Executive Vice President of Peking University.

1992-present – Professor at Peking University.

1992-2000 – Chairman of the Expert Panel of the World Bank Education Development Project in Poor Provinces of China.

1991-1992 – Higher Education Specialist, World Bank headquarters, Washington.

National Award for Higher Education Research (China, 1990).
