Congratulations are in order! A Project 5-100 university has newly entered the ARWU Physics Ranking: the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is now listed in the 101-150 group.

This ranking includes a range of more than 1,200 universities and publishes the results for the 200 best. These ratings are based on five indicators, each of which is assigned a different weight: (1) “alumni” (number of alumni – Nobel Prize laureates in physics since 1961 -- 10%); (2) “award” (number of employees – Nobel Prize laureates in physics since 1971 -- 15%); (3); “HiCi” (highly-cited researchers in physics and astronomy -- 25%); (4) “pub” (publications indexed by the Science Citation Index-Expanded in physics,--25%),; (5) “top” (percentage of articles published in 20% of the most reputable physics journals, -- 25%).

With respect to the “alumni” indicator (68.3), MIPT has outperformed most of the top 100 universities. MIPT is also among the top 200 of the QS Physics Rankings. Lomonosov Moscow State University is the only other Russian university in the ARWU Physics rankings.
