Internationalization and promotion of research as main focus of Project 5-100 seminarOctober 6, 2015
On 1 October, the 11th seminar conference of Project 5-100 was held in Nizhniy Novgorod. According to established tradition, the rector of the host university – Evgeniy Chuprunov (Rector of Lobachevski University) and Victor Kazantsev (Provost for Research and Innovation) presented their university’s best practices.
Within the framework of the event, several topical sessions were organized for the attendees: discussions of academic mobility, promotion of research results in the global market, advanced qualification programs, and exchange programs for managerial personnel, internet promotion, academic communication and implementation of the Converis system.
The discussion of academic mobility programs implemented in Turkey, Argentina and India that was started at the QS Worldwide conference was continued in Nizhniy Novgorod. Elena Stein (representative of German-Russian Exchange (DRA)) spoke about the progress of the “Exzellenz initiative” program in Germany, which is a pro-active measure similar to Project 5-100.
Communication specialists attending the seminar became familiar with the examples of ITMO University, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic and Tomsk State. Ilya Myasnikov (Associate Professor of Journalism at TSU) spoke to the attendees about how to make academic news interesting for the media. “Your scientists are your treasure. Always put human interest stories in the center of your news pieces”, Myasnikov advised. Nikolai Podorvanyuk (Science Editor of Gazeta.ru) shared data regarding the cooperation of Russian universities with the international scientific news agency “EurekaAlert!”.
The participants in the session devoted to international promotion of research results discussed the tools available to them. A lot of attention was given to the discussion of the system “Mendeley” – a link manager, which enables the user to read, share, reference, and cite scientific articles.
A presentation of advance training programs for the employees of international departments of Project 5-100 universities entitled “Internationalization of Higher Education in the 21stCentury” was made during the session devoted to exchanges. Larisa Taradina (Head of International University Leadership Programs at Project Office 5-100) said that the new initiative is designed for administrators who are capable of leading existing or newly-formed university departments responsible for university internationalization.
The program of the seminar-conference traditionally included meetings of the following networking cooperation groups led by the Global Universities Association: English environment, Cooperation with foreign partners, Promotion of research results, Succession pool, Research of internal environment, E-learning, Promotion of educational programs of the university-members of the Association.
The next seminar-conference of Project 5-100 will be held on 19-20 November in Moscow and will be hosted by National Research University of Science and Technology MISiS.
