Russia among the leaders of Nature Index Rising StarsAugust 2, 2016
According to the reputable magazine Nature, Russia has come second among the fastest science developing countries. Rising Stars rating, published by Nature Index website, tracks growth in the number of publications in 68 leading international magazines over the recent years (2012-2015). Nature notes Project 5-100’s significant contribution to the improved results of Russian universities.
Russia’s share in global high-quality research has grown on average by 24% between 2012 and 2015, according to Nature. The increase is very pronounced in selected areas such as Life Sciences – at 60%, Russia’s growth is the highest among the 10 countries that lead in this field.
Ranking authors point out that Project 5-100 is the ‘primary driver’ behind this success, since 7 out of 10 high-ranking universities featured in Nature Index are part of it. Also, ITMO has played a special role as evidenced by the improvement of its contribution by 184%.
Other rising stars include Poland (No.1), Saudi Arabia (No.3), Denmark, South Africa, India, Chile, Singapore, Thailand and Turkey.
