Vladimir Potanin Foundation presented its 2016 University Ranking at the TASS Press Center on September 6. 20 out of 75 universities taking part in the Scholarship Program are members of Project 5-100, and six of them took spots among the Top Ten. Just like last year, Higher School of Economics took gold. Ural Federal University came out as No.3, followed by Lobachevsky University (No.6), Siberian Federal University (No.7), Tomsk Polytechnic University (No.8) and Novosibirsk State University (No.9).

Participants of the roundtable dedicated to the latest ranking emphasized the importance of ratings for benchmarking universities both domestically and internationally. “It’s important to have many rankings,” stated Mikhail Antonov, the Head of SKOLKOVO Education Development Center Project Office, “as each of them highlights different elements of the university. University engagement in social life and public regional innovation projects is a key aspect. We are glad that we have Potanin Foundation ranking as another mirror that reflects the current position of Russian universities in this respect, among others.

Vladimir Potanin Foundation Ranking has been published for the last 12 years; it is based on aggregated expert evaluations of students and faculty of universities participating in the foundation’s Scholarship Program. Their ranking methodology helps highlight such an important aspect as creation of a creative environment that promotes students’ and faculty engagement in various projects and programs.

Other entrants in the Top 5 include Petrozavodsk State University (No.2) and St. Petersburg State University (No.4).
