Project 5-100 participants create a single center for international student recruitmentJanuary 19, 2015
The university-participants in Project 5-100 have decided to set up a single center for international student recruitment within the framework of the Association “Global Universities”. The establishment of the new center, and its various functions, will be coordinated by the Ural Federal University.
International student recruitment is one of the main goals of Project 5-100 universities, whose standing in international university rankings depends in large part on attracting fresh blood from foreign countries to boost the status of student enrollment in Russian institutions. The need to set up a recruitment structure was voiced by the Department of State Policy in the Sphere of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, and reflects the view that, at present, the best national universities are not fully realizing their potential for recruitment of international students in compliance with quotas set by the government.
Rossotrudnichestvo (The Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) is going to support the center. The participants in the Project already have experience of international student recruitment under quotas of Rossotrudnichestvo. It is difficult for a university to work with students from different countries alone; this is why gathering all resources under the roof of a single recruitment structure seems like a logical solution. The new center will enable the united team to focus on marketing Russian education programs and work with potential students from different countries in the interest of the fifteen university-members of Project 5-100.
