The Times Higher Education (THE) publishes today its Life Sciences subject ranking. Russia has three representatives in total, one of which is Kazan Federal University - Project 5-100 participant.
Three Russian universities now make the THE life sciences subject ranking for the first time. Kazan Federal University - Project 5-100 participants - is 401-500th, featuring in the top 500 of universities in the world.
Lomonosov Moscow State University makes the 101-125 band, while Saint Petersburg State University is 201-250th.
Meanwhile, this ranking of the top 500 universities for life sciences marks the first time that Russian universities have made top 150, top 250 and top 500 positions in a THE World University Subject Rankings table for life sciences.
The THE Life Sciences subject ranking employs the same rigorous and balanced range of 13 performance indicators used in the overall 2018 World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.
For the Life Sciences ranking, the threshold is 500 papers published in this discipline over the last five years. The THE expects an institution to have at least 5 per cent of its staff working in this discipline in order to include it in the subject table.
THE decided to expand rankings tables of the world’s best universities by 11 subjects in 2017. It is the first time Law, Phycology and Education have been included in the THE World University Rankings. THE rankings have been extended to encompass a range of popular individual subjects while some subject rankings have been significantly expanded, to 200, 400 and 500 ranked institutions, respectively.
