Project 5-100 Represented Russian Higher Education at AULA in MadridMarch 11, 2015
On 4-8 March the 23rd AULA (International Educational Opportunities Exhibition) was held in Madrid. Russian higher education in the Spanish capital was represented by Project 5-100 universities. AULA is an annual event running since 1992. It has the status of being the largest education expo in the country. The event is traditionally organized by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
In the five days that it was open, the expo was visited by approximately 110, 000 people. These guests were welcomed by 222 participants from Spain, China, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, to name but a few of the nations involved. Participants included universities, foreign languages schools and organizations providing student recruitment and marketing services in the sphere of higher education. In addition to the expo itself, the AULAprogram included various seminars and master classes whose purpose was to help young people choose a future profession.
The management personnel of the Project Office 5-100 organized a presentation of the system of Russian higher education during which they enlarged on the advantages of studying at Russia’s best universities. Spanish students, who are always very active within academic mobility programs, learned about the future opportunities available to those willing to study in Russia.
The expo stand of the Project was visited by some prominent officials, including Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov (Consul Ambassador of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Spain) and Evgeniy Ivaschenko – First Secretary of the Embassy and representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia in Spain.
Ivaschenko took part in the meeting between representatives of Project Office 5-100 with Mr. Carlos Martínez Tomás – Administrator of the Association of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). During the meeting the parties agreed on further cooperation between Project 5-100 and CRUE.
The expo of Project 5-100 universities attracted many of the Spanish pupils and students who attended AULA-2015. These guests of the Russian stand were especially interested in masters’ programs in foreign languages developed by Russian universities in cooperation with European schools.
One of the most important results of the event was the establishment of contacts between Russian universities and foreign partners represented by higher educational institutions of Europe and professional associations of higher education specialists.
Representatives of National Research University “MISiS”, who took part in the expo, noted that “the main positive result was the negotiations conducted by the university’s representatives with colleagues from Spanish universities to set up joint masters’ programs and student exchange programs”. Their colleagues from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology said that the opportunity to participate in such a grand international forum enabled them to “demonstrate their abilities and projects and to inform a large number of foreign students about modern Russian higher education”.
