Priority area of SibFU is comprehensive support of rational environmental management in unique territories – Taiga and the Arctic. In Russia, the University holds top positions in environmental sciences (sustainable forestry, geography, earth remote probing, biophysics, biogeochemistry etc.), by means of advanced scientific research and close cooperation with international universities and organizations.

SibFU consists of 20 schools covering sciences, engineering and humanities. There are 5 international research laboratories headed by the leading international scientists, several R&D centers in cooperation with transnational industrial companies.

SibFU is a part of the University of the Arctic, University of Shanghai Organization of Cooperation and members other international association and consortia.
