Students from Africa have arrived to Nizhnevartovsk, which is located in western Siberia. For almost a year they will undergo a preparatory course – to learn Russian and to prepare for entering Yugorsk State University. The newcomers from Zambia and Ghana have yet to join the student life. Now they are getting acquainted to Nizhnevartovsk and getting used to the snow and cold, and so far they are accompanied by an interpreter on all excursions.
One of the first excursions for the guys was a visit to the exposition of Nizhnevartovsk State University. Here the photos of famous graduates are near the shells of the Great Patriotic War times, and mineral samples that the district is rich in are placed near the household implements found at archeological excavations. For international students to feel more comfortable in the student community, the university held a day of international communication, where everyone told interesting facts about his homeland – Africa or Russia.
The beginning of the study of foreign students fell on another round of the pandemic. So that they could attend classes without worrying about their health, students were examined and given all the necessary vaccinations, including vaccinations against coronavirus.
More than 90 percent of Russian universities accept students from abroad. Last year alone more than 100 thousand foreigners entered the country’s educational institutions. But such experience is still a novelty for Ugra universities and colleges.
