For many people December is a time of preparation for the New Year, but for students it is also a period of preparation for the session. Along with examination tickets the guys from other countries study Russian traditions.
Some foreign students have already managed to get acquainted with them, such as Hao Zhang, who came to Russia from China. This is the fifth year the young man has stayed in Rostov for the New Year vacations. All winter holidays he has been visiting friends. “At our place in China for the New Year, my parents and I made dumplings before New Year’s Eve in the evening. Then we had dinner and watched concerts. The second day we make noodles for breakfast, and in South China many people make sweet dumplings. In the evening we watch fireworks,” notes Hao Zhang, a student at Southern Federal University.
Felix Padilla came to study in Rostov from Colombia. “Our country is Catholic, we meet the same way, we gather in the family, pray sometimes, have dinner, dance and wait for the New Year,” Felix says.
Patrick Phiri, a SFU student from Africa, is also very familiar with Russian traditions. In his country, it is also customary to celebrate the New Year with his family. “We usually pray at 12 o’clock and thank God for our lives and ask what to do in the new year,” the student shared.
Many students plan to spend the coming year 2022 in Russia. Despite the fact that the guys are from different countries, there is one thing they have in common – an interest in learning about Russian traditions.
